The Interaction and Human Factors team is looking for a Software Prototyper to research and build the next generation of sensor-based human-computer interactions. We are an eclectic group with backgrounds in human factors research, signal processing, machine learning, and more. As a member of this team, you will sit at the boundary between prototyping, research, and production - often switching rapidly between exploratory research and product-focused development to enable interaction concepts to make the leap from prototype to product.
As a Software Prototyper, you will investigate new technologies, prototype concepts, build frameworks for benchmarking human performance, and drive technical development needed to bring ideas to life. You will work on a wide array of sensing modalities such as image/video, multi-touch, and force sensing. Our team works closely with multidisciplinary teams in engineering and design to deliver actionable insights to drive key decisions for Apple products including Mac, iPhone, iPad, Vision Pro, and more.
- Identify novel human-sensing interactions for emerging technologies and build them into functional prototypes
- Develop software for human research, including measurement systems and data logging for small-scale studies
- Establish success criteria and technology requirements for human-computer interactions through prototyping, user studies, and data analysis
- Present and demo insights to engineering and design to inform key product decisions
- Expertise in software architecture and development, particularly for real-time sensor processing and interfaces
- Experience building interactive prototypes or applications
- Experience working with sensing technologies and data sources such as image, video, input devices, audio, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, or related field
- Algorithm and mathematics fundamentals in statistics, signal processing, machine learning, and state machine design
- Proficiency with scripting, data processing, data visualization and/or numerical analysis
- Experience working with human researchers to establish critical research tracks, interpret results, and apply learnings to product development
- 3+ years experience working in a relevant field
- Master’s or doctorate degree in computer science, human-computer interaction, or other relevant area
