Description of Work Unit
The College of Health and Human Sciences is comprised of eight academic units that provide transformative academic, research, and outreach programs designed to enhance the health and well-being of people, their environments, and communities in which they live. The College is one of the largest at Colorado State University with over 5,500 faculty, staff, students, and affiliates. With such a large and diverse group of constituents, there are significant demands for information and instructional technology infrastructure and services.

The College’s IT group is comprised of seven full-time employees: four IT managers and two assistant directors of IT who report directly to the director of IT. The director of IT reports to the college’s executive director of operations, who reports directly to the dean. Each of these IT positions is an autonomous professional position that is primarily responsible for one particular area of the College’s IT environment but is also expected to act as a generalist, assisting with other projects and initiatives within the IT Group, the Dean’s Office, or the College at large as needed.
Position Summary
The IT manager for technology services within the College of Health and Human Sciences is a 12-month, full-time Administrative Professional position. The IT manager for technology services reports directly to the director of IT for the College of Health and Human Sciences. Working as a member of the College’s IT group, this position will oversee the daily operations of the College’s six computer labs, including supervision of the student staff and management of related hardware and software. The position is also responsible for facilitating technology purchases for the College’s eight academic units, various centers, and computer labs, including client hardware, software, and printers. The position will also collaborate with the other IT managers in the implementation, support, and enhancement of technologies that support the College’s faculty, staff, and students.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks.
  • Experience as either a team lead or supervisor.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Two years or more of relevant work experience.
  • Experience supporting and/or managing technology in a computer lab or similar environment.
  • Experience with procuring computer hardware and/or software in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated success in building effective teams.

Essential Duties

Duty/Responsibility
  • Provide comprehensive management and supervision of the College’s wide network of six computer labs across campus, ensuring operations are running efficiently and all necessary staffing, technology, and supplies are available on a daily basis.
  • Develop and continually revise processes for managing technology used in the College’s computer labs/classrooms, including, but not limited to, workstations, checkout laptops, projectors, scanners, plotters, and printers and facilitate technical support requests to college helpdesk and/or vendor support.
  • Ensure university and college policies regarding technology procurement and computer lab operations and technology are communicated to the College’s faculty, staff, and students.
  • Fully coordinate all aspects of the college’s reservation process for the six teaching spaces in the College’s computer labs, including managing requests from the College’s eight academic units and scheduling 60+ classes each semester.
  • Initiate, track, and manage opportunities, where appropriate, to delegate duties to student-hourly employees, such as staff training, lab reservations, and responding to purchase requests.
  • Proactively monitor and expend the College’s student technology fee budget throughout the fiscal year to ensure that it is spent responsibly, according to university FPIs, and to the highest benefit of the College’s students
  • Coordinate all aspects of the complex procurement of technology for the College’s eight academic units, various centers, and computer labs. This includes software, printers, and more than 1,000 clients in academic units/centers and 450 clients in the computer labs.
  • Develop and organize a system to coordinate the high-volume inventory management and acquisition of printing supplies, office supplies, and equipment in the College’s computer labs.
  • In conjunction with the College’s IT group, recommend and, when applicable, implement technology, services, and systems that can be leveraged to enhance the services offered by the College to faculty, staff, and students.

  • Directly supervisor all student computer lab staff (20-25 student hourly employees) including all personnel issues such as hiring, training, evaluating, scheduling, and performance improvement when needed.
  • As technology continues to change, develop and create content and continually revise training for student computer lab staff to ensure optimal training for the support of technology and applications used across the College’s six computer labs.
