We design, build and deliver the low-level platform that enables seamless OS updates and rapid recovery from failures. Our technology powers both cloud and on-premises environments, supporting OEMs in customizing Windows for new devices and empowering enterprise IT admins to deploy and manage Windows at scale.

We are looking for a Software Engineer II with excellent communication, problem solving, and collaboration skills. You will have a passion for quality and be a creative thinker. You will work closely with engineering teams across Microsoft, working on low-level systems, and developer tooling to ensure every update is fast, reliable and secure. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year experience with multithreaded programming, operating systems, device drivers and/or firmware.

Other Qualifications: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Professional experience with C++.
  • Experience with operating systems fundamentals and systems-level programming.
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain reliable, scalable, and high-quality code for mission-critical systems.

• Make independent technical decisions and demonstrate ownership of features and deliverables.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliability, performance, and correctness of the OS update and recovery experience.


• Take end-to-end responsibility for development, observability, quality, testing, and production readiness of the services you build.


• Participate in code reviews, bug triage, and support well-informed decisions toward business and engineering goals.


• Debug and troubleshoot complex distributed systems, drive analysis of issues and outages, and implement durable system fixes.


• Influence ongoing design, architecture, standards, and methods for operating software-defined services and systems.
