Overview

The Surface team is looking for a Hardware Program Manager II to lead product development efforts for next-generation devices. This role is pivotal in driving execution excellence across internal engineering teams and external partners, ensuring delivery of high-quality products on time and within budget.


This position needs to collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers, designers, and manufacturing teams, and serve as the primary interface between Microsoft and its strategic partners.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of hardware product development lifecycles, manufacturing processes, and supply chain.
  • Solid communicator and team leader with proven ability to solve complex technical challenges and drive cross-functional decisions under pressure.
  • Experience working with suppliers and cross-regional teams.
  • Open to international travel as needed to support global program goals and cross-site collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).
  • 2+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).
  • Background in ME, EE, or System Engineering.
  • Familiarity with Surface product development or similar hardware programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration across engineering, design, and manufacturing teams to define and deliver product features.
  • Define program scope, milestones, and deliverables, and manage risks proactively.
  • Drive product lifecycle activities including Product Requirement Document creation, milestone planning, and subsystem coordination.
  • Manage development schedules, resolve priority conflicts, and communicate status to leadership.
  • Own subsystem delivery and supplier engagement, ensuring alignment with program goals and timelines.
  • Lead the internal and external program team for material and manufacturing readiness.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for issues during development and ramp.
