Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Computer Vision Developer for the Crop and Science Department at Oregon State University (OSU).

We’re looking for a motivated student to develop computer vision models that detect and classify important agricultural elements, such as harmful insects, weeds, crop diseases, and more, directly from images captured in fields with drones, smartphones, and fixed cameras.
This is an excellent hands-on opportunity to apply modern deep learning techniques to solve real-world problems in agriculture, while gaining valuable experience in model training, data annotation, deployment, and working on impactful projects.

Position Duties
  • Collect, clean, and annotate agricultural image datasets
  • Design, train, and fine-tune deep learning models for various tasks, e.g., object detection, classification, segmentation
  • Implement and optimize models for performance on edge devices (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Jetson)
  • Collaborate on integrating vision models with sensor systems or mobile/web apps
  • Document experiments, model architectures, training procedures, and results
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Practical experience with Python and relevant libraries
  • Hands-on knowledge of computer vision tasks
  • Familiarity with popular models/architectures (Vision Transformers, YOLO series, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and reliable work ethic
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication skills
