This is an Internal Employment Opportunity.

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 30 hours per week) Biological Sciences Research Technician 1 position for the Department of Crop and Soil Science at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position will support ongoing weed science research activities. The incumbent will assist with a range of tasks involving plant propagation, greenhouse management, and field-based work. Responsibilities will include germinating various weed species in petri dishes, transplanting seedlings into pots, maintaining greenhouse-grown plants, and supporting field experiments. Field responsibilities may include seed collection, seed cleaning, hand weeding, equipment maintenance, labeling, and organization of research supplies. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and hard-working, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in outdoor and greenhouse environments. This position provides hands-on experience in plant science research and is well-suited for individuals interested in agriculture, botany, ecology, or related fields.

Key Responsibilities
100% plant propagation, greenhouse management, and field-based work
  • Prepare petri dishes and germinate weed seeds under controlled conditions
  • Transplant seedlings to pots and manage plant growth in greenhouse settings
  • Support field activities including planting, hand weeding, seed collection, and seed processing
  • Assist with routine equipment upkeep and maintenance
  • Accurately label, organize, and track plant material and data
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of lab and field equipment
What We Require

Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science); OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions

Strong work ethic and attention to detail

Reliable, punctual, and capable of completing tasks with minimal supervision

Ability to foster inclusivity and respect for a diverse range of ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds.
What We Would Like You to Have
B.S. degree in agronomy, crop science, plant science, horticulture or a related field or experience in Weed Science laboratory

Prior experience with plant care of field research
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Some transport to field sites may be required. Work is outdoors in variable weather conditions.
