Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Field Research Technician for the Center for Resilient Agriculture and Food System at Oregon State University (OSU).

The OSU Organic Agriculture Program is hiring one student worker to assist with activities related to field research activities for spring, summer, and fall of 2026.

The hire will be working 16-24 hours per week during the academic year, and part-time to full-time (20-40 hours/week) during the summer.

The positions will serve to advance the objectives of grant-funded research projects including:
• Cover crop variety trial
• Soil health database sample collection
• Laboratory incubation of cover crop seed
• Seed production and yield project
• Drought-tolerant corn breeding project

Position Duties
These tasks will vary depending on season and priorities:

40%: Field data collection; soil sampling, biomass sampling, plant growth characterization, plant nutrient status, digital data entry, and data management
30%: Manual maintenance of research plots; planting, watering, weeding, termination, and harvesting
15%: Basic laboratory soil sample and plant biomass sample processing; weighing, drying, sieving, counting, and measuring
10%: Threshing, cleaning, counting, weighing and organizing seeds of diverse plants
5% Assist with Extension field days
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
Worker must be interested in agriculture, comfortable using farm equipment, including gas-powered and electric equipment and a small tractor. Safety training for use of equipment will be provided.

Worker must be comfortable working full days outside in the summer, including hand-weeding and lifting harvest totes. Safety precautions will be followed for excessive heat conditions.
