We are looking for Hardware Engineer – Safety-Critical Systems (Kavach)

The Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of hardware components for the Kavach program. The role involves microprocessor/microcontroller and FPGA-based design, PCB development, and support for SIL-4 compliant hardware development.

The position requires strong technical expertise in hardware design and the ability to work closely with senior engineers, safety teams, and cross-functional groups.

You’ll make a difference by

  • Mechanical design of traction, auxiliary converters (Locomotive, EMU, Metro)
  • Design and develop hardware circuits using microcontrollers, microprocessors, and FPGA components.
  • Contribute to schematic design, PCB layout support, and design documentation.
  • Perform hardware integration, debugging, and testing.
  • Support development of SIL-4 compliant designs in alignment with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with RAMS teams to support reliability and safety analysis (FMEA, FTA, MTBF).
  • Participate in hardware verification, validation, and environmental testing.
  • Work with suppliers for component selection and prototyping.
  • Document design activities and support audits/reviews.

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related engineering discipline.
  • 3–8 years of experience in hardware design and PCB development.
  • Hands-on experience with microcontroller, microprocessor, and FPGA-based hardware.
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools (Altium, OrCAD, Mentor Graphics, etc.).
  • Exposure to safety-critical hardware development and SIL-4 standards (EN 50126/8/9, EN 50129).
  • Basic understanding of RAMS and reliability analysis methods.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good documentation and communication ability.
  • Team player with willingness to learn from senior engineers.
