The University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology Department is searching for a Research Scientist position that will lead the design, production, purification, and quality control of adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors for in-vitro and in-vivo studies for preclinical and translational projects.
Requirements:
· PhD in Molecular Biology, Virology, Cellular Biology
· Hands-on experience with AAV vector production and characterization.
· Proficiency in cell culture, cloning, and viral QC assays.
· Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills; ability to work independently.
Preferred:
· Background in ophthalmology, retinal biology, or neuroscience.
· Familiarity with retinal disease models and ocular vector delivery methods.
· Familiarity with other common molecular biology techniques
Job Summary
Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.
· Design and produce recombinant AAV vectors for retinal and ophthalmic applications.
· Optimize and scale AAV production, purification, and QC workflows.
· Conduct molecular cloning, transfection, viral packaging, and titration assays (qPCR/ddPCR).
· Collaborate across research teams to design experiments and interpret data.
· Present data during lab and consortium meetings and conferences
· Maintain detailed experimental documentation, SOPs, and safety compliance.
· Mentor junior lab members and participate in lab meetings and publications.
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
