The Chan lab specializes in the study of pulmonary vascular disease and the heart-brain-lung interorgan communication axis. It incorporates population-level molecular epidemiology with mechanistic experimentation in cultured cells, animal models, and human specimens.

As a Research Scientist, main duties include:

Design and lead independent scientific projects in the lab with supervision from Dr. Chan.

Collaborate with other scientists and trainees

Participate in maintenance of common lab equipment and animal colonies, specifically lines that are relevant to the Research Scientist's projects.

Serve as lab mentor and teacher for students and trainees in lab

Present scientific projects orally

Draft and edit scientific grants and manuscripts

Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.

Must be able to move between labs and university offices. May require long periods of standing, bending, kneeling when doing experiments. May need to move lab equipment.
