The Pitt Biospecimen Core (PBC) is an institutional resource for collection, processing, and disbursement of biospecimens dedicated to serving the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Faculty in meeting their research needs. PBC Labs are located at UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Magee-Womens, UPMC Shadyside and UPMC Children’s Hospitals. Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work. Reviewing the Operating room schedule to identify cases eligible for research projects. Working closely with the Department of Pathology, the incumbent will collect, process, disburse, and store human biological materials based on established protocols. Processing may include but is not limited to aliquoting blood products, gross dissection of tissue, and PBMC isolation. Trains new staff members on standard operating procedures associated with each study to ensure that the needs of each project are met. Excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, adept to multi-tasking, and organizational skills are necessary to be successful in this position.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.

Physical Effort

· Walking to and from locations within hospital.· Standing for long periods of time at the bench.

· Reading small print on tubes, cryovials, and labels. · Lifting up to 30 pounds. Bending and Lifting to put away supplies.
