This position is for the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Pediatrics. The Research Technician will join the basic research laboratory, studying in vitro and in vivo models of disease in the intestine, with a particular focus on immune responses to the intestinal microbiota. The successful candidate will be familiar with basic cell and molecular biology techniques, including cloning, sequencing, PCR and RT-PCR methods, protein production and purification, cell culture techniques, and flow cytometry. Some work with mammalian specimen in the Rangos Research Core will be required. Candidates with experience in the production and purification of proteins from cell culture are urged to apply. Strong computer skills are particularly important, as is the ability to analyze, organize, interpret, and present data both verbally and in writing. Experience with organizing and managing laboratory ordering and inventory is desired. Some experience in a laboratory, specifically with cellular and molecular biology or biochemistry, is desired. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.

• Consults with other researchers and staff regarding laboratory procedures and experiments.
• Develops recommendations and problem resolutions to improve research efforts.
