THIS IS A TEMPORARY GRANT-FUNDED POSITION FUNDED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30, 2026
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician 2 assists in studying cellular mechanisms in Alzheimer's disease neuronal models.
Responsibilities
- Receives training in basic lab techniques (Western blots, qPCR, mouse tail PCR genotyping, microscopy, primary neuronal culture, and transcardiac perfusion/histology), surgical skills in microinjection, and mouse behaviors.
- Performs lab inventory purchases and maintains lab inventory records.
- Cleans glassware/plasticware and ensures laboratory sanitation.
- Maintains lab equipment for experiments.
- Maintains multiple lines of mouse colonies (weaning, genotyping, setting up matings).
- Prepares primary neuronal cell culture.
- Performs calcium imaging experiments in neurons and in established cell models.
- Prepares plasmid DNA, clones and transfects cells to establish new cellular models.
- Performs experiments in primary neuron cells, takes confocal images and analyses data.
- Participates in multiple projects ongoing in PI's lab (e.g., TRPC3 and tau projects).
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biomedical Science, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions on experimental protocols or requests from the PI.
- Ability to master work schedule to accomplish goals.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
