The Support Product and Services (SP&S) team focuses on improving customer support for advertisers, through in-application help and contact center support. We empower advertisers with the right assistance at the right time to enable them to confidently and effectively grow their business with Amazon. This is our primary Data Science role. You will develop and advance theories and models that can be used to make informed decisions in providing right advertiser support and estimate impacts of these support using experimental (A/B test) or observational data with the help of causal inference studies. We are seeking a Data Scientist who has a solid background in Machine Learning and Data Science, deep passion for building data-driven solutions, ability to formulate data insights and scientific vision, and has a proven track record of executing complex projects and delivering business impact.


Key job responsibilities
• Implement statistical methods to solve specific business problems utilizing code (Python, R, Scala, etc.).
• Drive design and development of user classification models and other predictive models to enable a personalized experience for a user.
• Improve upon existing methodologies by developing new data sources, testing model enhancements, and fine-tuning model parameters.
• Collaborate with program management, product management, applied science, software developers, data engineering, and business leaders to provide science support, and communicate feedback; develop, test and deploy a wide range of statistical, econometric, and machine learning models.
• Build customer-facing reporting tools to provide insights and metrics which track model performance and explain variance.
• Communicate verbally and in writing to business customers with various levels of technical knowledge, educating them about our solutions, as well as sharing insights and recommendations.
• Earn the trust of your customers by continuing to constantly obsess over their needs and helping them solve their problems by leveraging technology



About the team
The Support Product & Services team is a collaborative group of Business Intelligence Engineers, Data Scientist, Applied Scientists, Data Engineer, Product Managers, Software Development Engineers, and Program Managers. Our work is dedicated to empowering leaders and enabling action through data and science to improve the ways in which we can support advertisers.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree in a quantitative field, or Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science experience
- 2+ years of data scientist experience involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling
- 3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
- 3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance experience
- Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree in a quantitative field
- Knowledge of relevant statistical measures such as confidence intervals, significance of error measurements, development and evaluation data sets, etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
