Amazon is now searching for an innovative and custom solutions-oriented Hardware Development Engineer to be a part of our global initiative of developing and delivering the next generation of world-class fulfillment systems. Successful candidates are natural self-starters who have prior Hardware engineering experience in the integrated automation project life cycle, including custom product development, design, implementation, enhancement, and support.
As a Hardware Development Engineer for Amazon Fulfillment, Successful candidate will be able to work with some of the most talented engineers in the design, scientists in simulation and optimization in the development and delivery of physical distribution systems around the globe. The candidate will lead initiatives and complex cross-functional projects or programs that focus on the building of new, the alteration of existing, and the closing of end-of-life material handling and technology systems inclusive of Hardware, Controls and Software. The candidate will also lead the design and development of hardware, including sensors and edge compute devices for next generation Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform being developed to improve equipment, process and operator workflows. Have an established background in delivering high-performance physical systems, strong technical problem-solving abilities, project management skills, and an internal motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. As a working leader, will be required to take the lead on the implementation and delivery of large system concept designs and advanced technology in ambiguous and complex problem spaces. Integrate systems for safety, security, stability, and efficiency. A successful candidate participates in the full system development life cycle, working within broadly defined parameters, including test plan execution and solution quality needs.

This role requires 30% travel and availability to work from a corporate office when not traveling. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Relocation assistance may be provided.


Key job responsibilities
• Lead and manage the lifecycle of complex cross-functional projects with considerable impact. Projects may span organizations or geographies in support of a business objective.
• Design, develop, and emulate engineering solutions for complex material handling challenges considering human/equipment interactions for the North America fulfillment network
• Design, develop and configure IIoT hardware for equipment, process and operator workflow improvements
• Lead and coordinate concept efforts for optimal solutions for the North America fulfillment network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations and site layout
• Work with Scientists to create highly advanced simulation models and run "what-if" scenarios to help drive to optimal Hardware solutions
• Work closely with internal teams to ensure that every detail is thought through and documented using Standard Operating Procedures and/or structured change control
• Work closely with vendors, suppliers and other teams to come up with innovative solutions.
• Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners
• Artifact (research, schematics, specifications, prototypes, 3D Models, analysis, test plans, strategic narratives, etc.) and set the standard in organization for engineering excellence.
• Able to communicate ideas effectively to achieve the right outcome for team and customer. Seek diverse perspectives, listen to feedback, and are willing to change direction if it creates a better outcome. Harmonize discordant views and lead the resolution of contentious issues (build consensus).
• Travel up to 30% throughout North America, which can vary up to three weeks consecutive travel including weekends.
