Amazon Web Services seeks experienced professionals to lead logistics operations within our global cloud computing infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring substantial warehousing experience, coupled with strong leadership abilities and a commitment to operational excellence.
The Logistics site lead manages daily cluster data center logistics operations, ensuring all service level agreements are met. This role requires deep analysis of datacenter asset lifecycles and close collaboration with Logistics Managers to develop site coverage plans and address escalations. The position involves strategic decision-making regarding spare component lifecycles, customer engagements, and operational planning to maintain high availability while optimizing costs.
The role encompasses maintaining team metrics, generating reports for stakeholders, and representing the team in leadership meetings. The lead will work closely with Procurement and Hardware Engineering teams to manage inventory levels and serve as the primary liaison with vendors for RMA processing and replacement coordination including coordinating cluster wide pickups as needed. They will also conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members to identify process-related issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Operational responsibilities include overseeing the team's shipping and receiving operations, maintaining accurate inventory records through internal systems, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The position requires hands-on involvement in logistics operations, including the ability to operate powered equipment such as forklifts and cherry pickers when necessary.
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with excellence in written and verbal communication. They must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment while demonstrating experience in managing vendor relationships and leadership capabilities. Proficiency in warehouse management systems is essential, as is commitment to safety standards and quality control.
The successful candidate must balance strategic planning with hands-on operational management while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency in support of AWS's global infrastructure.
Note - This role will initially require working in Manassas until Louisa location is ready for launch.
Key job responsibilities
- Investigating metrics and reviewing backlogs
- Develop a strategy and delegate tasks to eliminate backlogs
- Ensure set SLAs are met
- Communicate progress/holdups with management
- Assist in site tech responsibilities when needed. This will include but not limited to requiring to lift up to 39lbs individually and perform team lifts for assets over 39lbs
- Ensure each site is meeting the needs/expectations of our customers/business
- Filter information from management to site logistics and vice versa
- A supporter of projects outside of day to day operations
- The lead will submit all necessary PR’s/PO’s to design all Logistics spaces with the site(s) by using current and approved standards within IAD.
- Plan site coverage for day to day and during periodic reviews by coordinating with manager
- Host team syncs
- Host one-one conversations with team and make process improvements
- Travel between sites as per operational needs
- On-call coverage as per business needs
A day in the life
As the Logistics Site Lead, you will lead your team to maintain successful daily operations within your cluster. You will review incoming deliveries, track weekly priorities, and ensure all SLAs are met. You will contribute to your teams development through assisting in projects, and drive projects and process improvements on your own. You will organize coverage needs with your cluster and assist the manager with organizing strategies to complete ongoing high-priority tasks.
The Logistics team in IAD is responsible for providing end-to-end inventory management services for server and network equipment used within the Data Center including: receiving, RMA, media handling, parts transfers, maintaining inventory stock profiles, customer service, mitigating upstream/downstream barriers, establishing/enhancing processes, and general safety and security of the buildings and teams within. IAD is comprised of numerous Data Centers across NOVA and Central Virginia and are serviced by the Logistics remote site teams.
