Key job responsibilities
The Data Center Engineering Operations Engineer ensures all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment operates within contracted parameters while driving innovation to optimize efficiency and reduce operational costs. This role encompasses risk management, infrastructure maintenance, vendor management, performance reporting, and root cause analysis.
• Serving as technical subject matter expert for hands-on troubleshooting of critical infrastructure including generators, switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and building automation systems
• Managing contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors to ensure compliance with established practices, procedures, and local legislation
• Conducting root cause analysis for operational issues and implementing corrective actions • Establishing performance benchmarks and preparing comprehensive reports on facility infrastructure operations
• Collaborating with DCO managers, business leaders, and partners to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize safety, performance, reliability, and sustainability
• Supporting rack installation with proper power and cooling provisioning • Implementing preventative and corrective maintenance programs for critical infrastructure
• Developing metrics and dashboards for facility performance monitoring
• Ensuring compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations
• Leading continuous improvement initiatives to achieve operational excellence and uptime targets.
A day in the life
You'll be the technical expert ensuring 24/7 uptime of critical infrastructure powering AWS services globally.
• Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within SLAs, serving as technical escalation point for complex electrical and mechanical issues.
• Execute rack installations, decommissioning, and facility modifications with proper power and cooling provisioning.
• Monitor critical infrastructure through building automation systems, providing real-time operational readings and KPIs to maintain 99.999% uptime targets.
• Manage on-site contractors ensuring compliance with safety practices.
• Collaborate with DCO managers and field engineers on capacity planning and incident response.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Work schedule varies—shifts up to 12 hours with rotating schedules and on-call responsibilities
