Description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Amazon's Leo Satellite Engineering and Mechanical Development team is at the forefront of satellite design and development. We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to design and implement automated test systems for verifying satellite hardware and components.

Key job responsibilities
* Develop embedded firmware (C/C++) to control electric motors (BLDC, stepper, servo) in satellite electromechanical systems
* Implement motor control algorithms including FOC, commutation, torque/speed regulation, and closed-loop position control
* Interface with sensors (encoders, Hall effect, current sensors, temperature, IMUs) to enable real-time feedback and monitoring
* Design and build automated test systems for verifying satellite hardware and electromechanical assemblies
* Develop cloud-based tools and infrastructure for test data collection, analysis, remote monitoring, and fleet-level reporting
* Communicate with higher-level system architectures via standard protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet)
* Author functional requirements, design verification plans, and test procedures
* Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to integrate firmware into satellite hardware
* Support product releases from prototype through manufacturing and deploym

A day in the life
This is not a generic embedded role. You will write the firmware that makes motors move, actuators deploy, and mechanisms operate — then build the cloud-connected test infrastructure to prove it all works. The ideal candidate lives at the intersection of embedded systems, motor control theory, and software architecture.
