Description

Amazon LEO is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Amazon LEO will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a broad background in the design, analysis, reliability, and lifetime of mechanical systems and avionics.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience performing design, analysis, sizing, and selection of mechanical mechanisms and components including gears, bearings, lubricants, motors, and gearboxes for space environments.

This is a hands-on role for a highly collaborative individual that combines technical and analytical capabilities to convert analytic trade studies to a qualified physical design, while optimizing for high volume production and meeting cross discipline requirements.

Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities
* Use knowledge and experience in understanding, collaborating and trading complex inputs from multiple other disciplines (Electrical, RF, Optics, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test) to guide the team and arrive at a viable technical approach
* Generate detailed designs with CAD assemblies/components and drawings as deliverables.
* Coordinate with other engineers, manufacturing and assembly to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of production are achieved
* Documentation and presentation of materials for technical design reviews.
* Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for space hardware

A day in the life
You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before.
