Software Development Manager, Elastic Block Store (EBS), Capacity Optimization
Amazon
Software Engineering
Boston, MA, USA
Description
Join Amazon Web Services (AWS) and lead the optimization of one of the world's largest cloud fleets. We are seeking a software development manager for the Elastic Block Store (EBS) Capacity Engineering team to lead a group of engineers focused on optimizing the fleet of servers powering some of the world's largest websites and cloud services. EBS is the solid state drive for the Internet, storing exabytes of data for millions of customers. You will lead the development and operations of software services that predict future demand and drive orders for additional servers in each AWS data center in the world. We continue to optimize capacity to improve the availability of EBS for all customers and push boundaries of cost efficiencies at massive scale, and we want you to own that charter!
In this role, you will lead, coach, and grow a team of engineers responsible for creating and optimizing global and regional capacity. The team you will lead is in the process of inventing a new capacity forecasting and planning platform for EBS. This involves building software and mathematical optimization models to balance service, infrastructure, financial, and business constraints. EBS is rapidly expanding to meet the growing data usage by AWS customers, accelerated by the exponential growth of AI workloads. You will lead your team to introduce new machine learning models, algorithms, and agents to automate how we plan and purchase capacity to meet this demand growth. As a result, your work will directly impact AWS’s expansion. You will have the opportunity to work across AWS organizations and business teams to power the rapid growth of the AWS cloud and our customers’ products. Your role will ensure optimal operation of our fleet, impacting exabytes of storage and gigawatts of power.
Managing capacity in data centers to avoid outages while ensuring efficient resource use is challenging, and Amazon has developed sophisticated models to anticipate how much and when capacity is needed. You will lead your team to improve these models, which has a direct impact on EBS margins and AWS capital and power efficiency.
