Description

Amazon Leo is building a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities worldwide. We're looking for a talented Hardware and Systems Integration Engineer to join our Prototyping and Integration (PI) Team, supporting development of highbandwidth optical intersatellite communication systems.

The PI-Team accelerates hardware development through rapid prototyping, manufacturing, and integration of novel Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and systems for the Optical
Intersatellite Link organization.

As a Hardware Prototyping Specialist, you will serve as the operational backbone of our hardware prototyping operations, driving end-to-end program execution across vendor management, supply chain coordination, inventory oversight, SAP/ERP integration, quality coordination, and cross-functional program management. You will interface directly with engineering, sourcing, planning, and operations teams to ensure hardware is available, documented, and delivered on schedule to support Leo's satellite development program.

This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced research and development environment and is comfortable owning multiple functional domains simultaneously. The Hardware Prototyping Specialist is a critical force multiplier for our engineering organization — enabling engineers to focus on design and development while operational coordination, logistics, and procurement activities are managed seamlessly.

Export Control Requirement
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities
• Manage end-to-end Request workflow: intake, triage, review, distribution, and resolution tracking across all hardware prototyping activities
• Own and maintain relationships with secondary Suppliers. Coordinate vendor sourcing, purchase orders, and to ensure hardware is delivered on time and within budget
• Manage SAP/ERP transactions including shipments, pack slips, inventory adjustments, and outbound work orders
• Oversee inventory operations: maintain stock levels, track consumables inventory, manage bin organization, and process replenishment orders
• Coordinate with Leo Sourcing and Planning teams on supply chain timelines, project tracking, and hardware demand forecasting
• Support quality inspection operations: prioritize work orders, coordinate part flow through inspection processes, and ensure proper documentation is uploaded and maintained
• Manage complete Bill of Materials (BOM) tracking from release through clear-to-build status, including coordination with Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering teams
• Develop and distribute weekly stakeholder communications on build status, blockers, and projected completions
• Proactively identify and remove blockers across any part of the hardware development pipeline to maintain program velocity

A day in the life
You will work across Mechanical, Electrical, Sourcing, and Quality teams to manage hardware prototyping operations end-to-end, from Request ticket intake and BOM tracking through execution and final parts delivery. This position requires strong operational execution skills and proficiency in SAP/ERP transactions, inventory management, and cross-functional program coordination within a fast-paced hardware development environment. The ideal candidate thrives under competing priorities, proactively removes blockers, and enables engineering teams to maintain program velocity. You will help scale operational processes to meet the demands of an accelerating satellite hardware program, bridging the gap between prototype build execution and delivery readiness.
