Description
We are looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead a team of engineers on the Alexa Endpoints team. In this role, you will own the technical vision, execution, and people development for a team building customer-facing Alexa experiences on mobile devices (iOS/Anroid). You will partner closely with product management, UX, quality, and platform teams to deliver features at scale while raising the engineering bar.
Key job responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Delivery
Own the end-to-end technical strategy and roadmap for your team's area within Alexa Endpoints
Drive architecture decisions for mobile SDKs, voice interaction pipelines, and endpoint integrations (Android/iOS)
Ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of features and services; manage trade-offs between scope, quality, and timeline
Establish and maintain operational excellence, including monitoring, alarming, on-call processes, and incident response
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Alexa platform, cloud services, QA, TPM) to remove blockers and align priorities
People Management & Development
Manage, mentor, and grow a team of 8+ software development engineers (SDE-1 through SDE-3)
Hire top talent; build a diverse, inclusive team with a high performance bar
Conduct regular 1:1s, set clear goals, deliver actionable feedback, and manage performance effectively
Create career development plans and provide coaching to help engineers reach their full potential
Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and customer obsession
Strategic Impact
Influence the broader Alexa Endpoints and Alexa Mobile organization's technical direction
Identify opportunities to improve developer productivity, code quality, and system reliability
Drive adoption of best practices in software engineering, testing, CI/CD, and automation
Represent your team in OP planning; define goals, resource needs, and success metrics
Champion initiatives around AI/ML adoption, test automation, and operational efficiency.
About the team
The Alexa Endpoints team is at the forefront of delivering intelligent conversational AI experiences across platforms. We build and maintain the critical infrastructure that powers the Alexa mobile application, with a primary focus on developing/integrating-with the software development kit (SDK) that enables seamless communication between mobile clients and backend AI agents. We manage services like AlexaMobileSuggestionService and implement sophisticated solutions for utterance handling, deeplink generation, and multi-modal interactions while ensuring security, scalability, and exceptional customer experience across iOS and Android platforms
