Description
Are you passionate about electrical design and bringing innovative hardware to life? Do you thrive on solving complex circuit design challenges that span analog, digital, and power domains? Do you want to see your electrical designs enable products that delight millions of Amazon customers? If yes, you'll fit right in here at Amazon Robotics.
Amazon Robotics is seeking an Electronics Design Engineer with deep expertise in electrical design and circuit validation to lead the design and integration of electronic robotic systems.
We are a smart team of doers that work passionately to apply cutting-edge advances in robotics, control systems, and mechatronics to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers' experiences in ways we can't imagine yet. We invent new improvements every day. We are Amazon Robotics and we will give you the tools and support you need to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling and fun.
Key job responsibilities
• Design and analyze electrical circuits and systems for robotic platforms, including motor control electronics, sensor interfaces, power distribution, communication systems, and safety-critical circuits
• Create detailed electrical schematics with clear specifications using industry-standard schematic capture tools (OrCAD, Altium, or similar)
• Generate smaller layout (e.g., sensor designs) yourself and lead larger layout (e.g., motor controllers) undertaken by our internal and external team
• Build circuit models and simulations (SPICE, MATLAB, or similar) to predict performance, conduct trade studies, and validate design approaches before prototyping
• Develop electrical architecture diagrams and interface specifications to communicate design intent and analyze system performance, signal integrity, and power distribution
• Design filtering, signal processing, and protection circuits to address real-world limitations such as noise, EMI/EMC compliance, thermal constraints, and component tolerances in dynamic robotic environments
• Lead cross-functional design integration across mechanical (actuators, enclosures, thermal), electrical (circuits, PCBs, motor controllers), and firmware (embedded control, safety systems) domains
• Identify system-level solutions that optimize across components rather than individual parts in isolation, finding creative trade-offs between electrical design, mechanical constraints, cost targets, and performance requirements
• Derive electrical requirements and specifications across subsystems to ensure integrated robotic systems meet objectives for functionality, reliability, safety, and human-robot interaction
• Conduct trade space studies to evaluate design alternatives, comparing performance, cost, manufacturability, supplier capability, and timeline (make vs. buy, OEM vs. ODM decisions)
• Lead electrical validation and testing activities including prototype bring-up, functional testing, EMI/EMC compliance testing, safety validation, and design verification against specifications
• Generate technical artifacts (schematics, test plans, trade studies, validation reports, design documentation) that influence product designs across hardware, firmware, and manufacturing teams
