Description

Do you want to have a worldwide impact in Robotics? Amazon Robotics builds high-performance, real-time robotic systems that can perceive, learn, and act intelligently alongside humans — at Amazon scale. We invent and scale AI-driven robotic systems for fulfillment. Our mission is to enable robots to interact safely, efficiently, and fluently with the clutter and uncertainty of real-world fulfillment centers.

The Amazon Robotics team is seeking a broad, curious Interdisciplinary System Engineer with a strong mechanical hardware background to join our robotic manipulation team. We holistically design, build, and deliver end-to-end robotic systems. Our team is responsible for the core infrastructure and tools that serve as the backbone of our robotic products — enabling roboticists, machine learning scientists, software engineers, and hardware engineers to deploy systems from lab to field.

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Interdisciplinary System Engineer who will define system architectures, drive cross-functional tradeoffs, and ensure successful integration of complex hardware-software robotic systems for deployment into the fulfillment network. The ideal candidate combines deep mechanical design expertise with systems thinking — someone who can design mechanical modules, technically challenge design decisions at a component level, and reason across mechanical, electrical, and software boundaries to deliver robust, scalable robotic products.

Key job responsibilities
- Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems, with emphasis on mechanical architecture and physical system constraints.
- Design and technically review mechanical modules and subsystems; challenge design decisions with rigorous engineering analysis and first-principles reasoning.
- Identify and analyze cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, manufacturability, and scale.
- Break down and frame problems using concept of operations, use cases, and structural/functional decompositions to clarify needs and align hardware, software, and science teams.
- Drive system-level requirements definition and flowdown; write requirements, functional specifications, interface control documents, and design verification plans.
- Build quantitative models and analyses (MATLAB, Python, Excel) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and understand key system drivers across integrated mechatronic systems.
- Develop system integration and evaluation strategies; drive execution of system test campaigns spanning lab and field environments, including test readiness reviews, post-test analysis, and reporting.
- Work with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure smooth production transitions and identify design choices that enable deployment at Amazon scale.
- Mentor colleagues across disciplines and exhibit role model behaviors of thorough engineering analysis and cradle-to-grave ownership.
