Senior Technical Program Manager, Elastic Block Store
IT, Operations
Seattle, WA, USA
Description
Join Elastic Block Store (EBS), the solid-state drive for the Internet, which stores exabytes of data for millions of customers around the world running GenAI training and inference, large-scale data processing, databases, and High-IOPS workloads on our data volumes. We are seeking a Technical Program Manager to drive some of our service’s most important initiatives such as:
- Launching new service capabilities that extend our industry-leading performance, durability, availability, and security
- Optimizing capacity to improve the availability of EBS for all customers and push boundaries of cost efficiencies at massive scale
- Improving the experience of our customers through key customer engagements, root cause analysis, and by influencing our service team’s engineering roadmaps.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, both written and verbally, and possess 5-10+ years in effective project management of technical initiatives, as well as strategic program management. Experience with block storage devices, network protocols, and/or Linux operating system concepts is a plus. A Bachelor's Degree or additional technical experience is required.
Key job responsibilities
You will lead technical programs that span multiple engineering teams across EBS, EC2, S3, and other foundational AWS services. You will work with PMs to identify and drive proactive solutions for customer pain points. And you will develop mechanisms to track and measure how we’re delivering on customer expectations. The primary responsibilities of the Technical Program Manager include:
- Lead planning and tracking of engineering work across multiple programs simultaneously
- Design and implement scalable mechanisms, automated GenAI tooling, and data-driven process improvements to make our org more efficient
- Develop standard operating procedures, project plans, and program-level status updates up to VP level
- Anticipate potential issues and risks and escalate in a timely and data-driven manner.
- Remain flexible to changing priorities and open to new ideas.
- Keep the customer experience as the primary focus.
A day in the life
Your responsibilities will vary as your programs evolve and new priorities arise. Some days you will deep dive with engineers or analyze dashboard data to understand system status/behavior. Other days you will update project plans, give program updates, or write 1-page recommendation docs. You will build GenAI agents, scripts, or use other automation tools to help you scale. You will meet with tech teams, finance, and product managers to make strategic trade-offs decisions or advocate for system improvements. You will help internal/external customers solve pain points and resolve misalignments. As a highly visible role, you will need strong communication, pragmatism, and an ownership mindset.
