Description

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations, from foundational services such as Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS's services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you will support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized solutions for their cloud services.

EC2 Networking has been one of the foundational services that allowed customers to move to the cloud. We manage the traffic flowing through one of the largest networks in the industry, handling billions of requests. VPC Lattice and PrivateLink sit at the center of this mission. They give customers a simple, secure way to connect services across VPCs and accounts, applying zero-trust principles without requiring deep networking expertise. We are building the next generation of application networking, and the control plane that powers it is where service provisioning, connectivity, and customer-facing APIs come to life.

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer who wants to build distributed systems that operate at AWS scale. You will design and deliver the APIs, workflows, and automation that provision and manage customer networking resources. This is hands-on work on a high-traffic control plane where correctness, availability, and operational excellence directly shape the customer experience. A successful candidate is a multi-faceted engineer who is eager to grow their technical craft and help elevate the team around them. They are someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves, own a problem end to end, and ship to production. You are eager to be part of an exciting business and to add impactful value to internal and external customers alike.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate scalable services and workflows that power VPC Lattice and PrivateLink connectivity.
- Own features from design through deployment, including operational readiness, monitoring, and on-call support.
- Improve the reliability, latency, and scalability of a control plane serving customers worldwide.
- Write high-quality, testable code and raise the engineering bar through code reviews and design feedback.
- Partner with product, data plane, and dependent teams to deliver features that span system boundaries.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and drive operational improvements that reduce toil and customer impact.

A day in the life
You will work alongside a team of engineers building networking services that customers depend on every day. A typical day might include refining a design for a new API, pairing on a tricky distributed-systems problem, reviewing a teammate's code review, and diving deep on an operational metric to remove a class of errors. You will have the autonomy to decide how to solve hard problems and the support of senior engineers and a manager invested in your growth.
