Senior Lab Engineer, Amazon Industrial Robotics
Amazon Fulfillment Technologies & Robotics
Description
Amazon Industrial Robotics is seeking exceptional talent to help develop the next generation of advanced robotics systems that will transform automation at Amazon's scale. We're building revolutionary robotic systems that combine cutting-edge AI, sophisticated control systems, and advanced mechanical design to create adaptable automation solutions capable of working safely alongside humans in dynamic environments. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of robotics and automation at an unprecedented scale, working with world-class teams pushing the boundaries of what's possible in robotic manipulation, locomotion, and human-robot interaction.
We need technicians to help define the way we build and test our products and features in a start-up environment. You will be the hands-on fabrication expert who can take a napkin sketch and turn it into reality, working in a well-equipped prototyping shop to rapidly build and iterate on test equipment and prototypes. If you are passionate about pioneering new technologies for the real world, inventing something new through hands-on fabrication, and delivering great hardware, we want to talk to you.
Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Lab Engineer, you will be responsible for independently fabricating rapid prototypes and test equipment from concept to completion. An ideal candidate can take a rough sketch or concept and build it themselves using a full range of fabrication techniques including soldering, CNC programming and operation, 3D printing, welding, and general machining. You'll work in a shop equipped with modern fabrication tools to support multiple areas of the program, creating everything from simple test fixtures to complex robotic test equipment. You should be comfortable working independently to solve fabrication challenges and have the technical versatility to select the right manufacturing approach for each project.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on fabrication experience in a prototyping, test lab, or engineering shop environment
- Demonstrated experience with multiple fabrication techniques including soldering, 3D printing, and machining
- Experience with CNC programming and operation (mill and/or lathe)
- Experience reading technical drawings and translating concepts into physical prototypes
- Experience troubleshooting and documenting fabrication processes
- Knowledge of shop safety practices and proper use of fabrication equipment
- Experience with CAD/CAM software for CNC programming
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing and testing mechanical robotics equipment
- 10+ years of hands-on fabrication experience in a prototyping, test lab, or engineering shop environment
- Experience with welding (TIG, MIG, or stick)
- Experience with composite fabrication or advanced manufacturing techniques
- Experience using one or more of the following technologies (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Mastercam, AutoCAD, CREO, etc.) to create fabrication-ready designs
- Experience with electronics assembly and PCB prototyping
