The Compliance Analyst is responsible for supporting processes and oversight for all regulatory compliance related matters within the Nordic markets (Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway) for American Express products and services, including particularly relevant charge and credit card activities.


The Nordic Compliance team in American Express is growing and we are now looking for an additional Compliance Analyst to our Stockholm-office!

In the Nordic markets of Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, American Express operates as a payments service provider, both as an issuer and an acquirer.

Within the role as Compliance Analyst, you will report directly to the Nordic Compliance Director. The Nordic compliance team currently consists of a very skilled and experienced team of compliance officers divided into three sub-teams with different areas of responsibility.

The new Compliance Analyst will work with compliance-related queries in relation to, for example, PSD/PSR, Consumer Credit Directive, GDPR, Outsourcing, DORA, Accessibility Directive as well as local Marketing Acts, Interest Acts, Debt Collection Acts.

The role comprises inter alia the creation and maintenance of compliance related policies and procedures, training to colleagues, providing day-to-day compliance support to internal stakeholders, participate in the New Product Approval-process, manage regulatory change management, perform compliance risk assessments, submit internal and external reporting.

With the current focus on the new PSD/PSR as well as the new Consumer Credit Directive, American Express offers an exciting opportunity to work with these new legislations as there is a large international compliance team with experts in both PSD and CCD. In American Express, the compliance teams also have access to high quality systems and software to support for example regulatory change management.

How will you make an impact in this role?

By being quick on your feet, understanding the role of a compliance officer and understanding the role of the team in a global context is a terrific way to succeed in this role.

As Financial Services regulations are evolving at a rapid pace, with new insights being discovered every day, it is a key concept to be a successful collaborator and communicate frequently to ensure an efficient relationship with all stakeholders. To also support the development, embedding appropriate and effective government practices, controls and approval processes we will deliver and evidence regulatory compliance with integrity.

Minimum Qualification

  • A law degree or equivalent experience in financial services law applicable to the Nordic markets
  • Both spoken and written proficiency in English and at least 1 other Nordic language
  • 2 - 3 years of regulatory compliance experience, experience from cross-border business is an advantage
  • Strong awareness and interest of the regulatory environment and EU financial services laws
  • Ability to translate legislation and regulations into operational processes
  • Ability to assess risk and prioritize according to risk
  • Ability to effectively complete tasks and to keep track of both long-term and short-term priorities
  • Willingness to work in and adapt to a complex international environment
  • Ability to present legal issues and compliance risks to Senior Management
