The Finance Data Science & Analytics (DS&A) team at American Express helps drive sustainable, long-term growth for the enterprise by empowering smarter, profitable, real-time investment decisions. We reinvent forecasting, tracking, and analytical processes, leveraging the latest tools and setting the standard for advanced analytics. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to work with the leadership team, gain a deeper understanding of the AXP business and build key business relationships.

How will you make an impact in this role?

An analyst in this role will support the central ownership of CMV (Card Member Value) which drives the Enterprise investment allocation for all Prospect acquisitions. This will involve partnership across the Investment Optimization ecosystem (Marketing, Risk, Business Units Finance teams), the opportunity to perform critical sensitivity analyses, and working on analytical projects that influence how enterprise investment decisions are made.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and leverage the Investment Optimization Card Member Lifetime Value (CMV) model to run different analyses and present conclusions to senior leaders.
  • Continue to evolve the CMV model framework and adapt our funding strategy to the organization’s future needs.
  • Support executing Project Newton initiatives and support driving forward future state of Investment Optimization.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Marketing and Product teams to champion the CMV model framework and ensure alignment across different applications and valuation models (New Accounts, Line, Marketing).
  • Own the central financial inputs of the CMV model and maintain consistency of these inputs provided to the Product and Risk teams in the organization.
  • Support migration of forecasting financial metrics by leveraging big data languages.
  • Complete and coordinate annual compliance reports and presentations related to the CMV framework. Attend compliance committees and partner with Business Unit Finance and Risk teams to complete compliance requests as needed.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate thought leadership, creativity and resourcefulness in generating solutions.
  • Demonstrate strong financial and analytical skills. Detail-oriented with an ability to create and maintain financial and economic models.
  • Analyze current processes and drive process mapping
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to break down complex ideas into understandable and actionable messages.
  • Ability to build relationships with and influence business partners using sound logic and analytics
  • Solid understanding of financial statements, discounted cash flow valuation models and NPV financial frameworks. Understanding of card economics is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and Power Point. Interest in data mining applications and programs (SQL, Python, Cornerstone).
  • Experience with TM1 preferred.

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
