The Finance Department drives performance while upholding the company's commitment to regulatory compliance and financial integrity through strategic collaboration with internal business partners and external constituents including the investment community and regulators. How will you make an impact in this role?
Directly reporting to Controllership Manager, this position will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company financial statements and control environment within the EMEA AMEX Group structure from Madrid office focus on American Express Europe (AEESA).
Madrid currently stands as the Amex European hub for card issuer and acquiring business activities.
This position will be key for supporting new Finance initiatives for the company.
Key responsibilities
- USGAAP month-end close procedures and documentation to ensure accuracy and integrity for the Spanish entities Profit & Loss accounts and Balance Sheets.
- Identify unusual trends and entries within the local ledgers, plan remediation actions and evaluate solutions with different line of business.
- Supporting the local statutory financial statements preparation which consolidates EMEA region.
- Deeply assess IFRS implications for key business transactions.
- Support legal entity Reporting team and liaise with the external auditors to support completion of the statutory financial statements and audit process.
- Prepare legal entity forecast, projections and impairment test.
- Ensure adequate controls are set to identify potential weaknesses and avoid any material financial error.
- Providing financial advisory to local and international stakeholders regarding specific business transactions and new deals set-up.
- Keep close track on intercompany transactions and ensuring a strict governance/ compliance with existing Transfer Pricing policy.
- Close collaboration with Tax team and local financial business planners.
- Review of Management to legal Entity P&L reconciliation.
- Drive team financial automation and collaborate with Central Automation team for new initiatives.
- Collaborate within Bank of Spain regulatory and reporting requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Good interpersonal skills and team-oriented person.
- Strong financial analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong technical accounting background, experience in accounting, statutory audits, reporting and planning (4-5 years of experience within a similar role).
- Advanced knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and PGC Spanish GAAP accounting principles.
- Very fluent in both English and Spanish. Strong verbal and written communication skills required for both languages.
- High proficiency in MS-Office environment (compulsory experience in Excel and Essbase knowledge preferable).
- Being able to work and coordinate with different teams (both local and international) based on different regions and time zones.
- High capacity to adapt to changes and new processes taking ownership on them with a proactive approach.
- Collaborative mindset on engagement and development initiatives within finance organization.
- Being able to manage workloads, prioritize tasks and work through strict deadlines.
- ERP knowledge preferable (Oracle, HFM, Power BI, Lumi AI or other analytics).
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master’s Degree is a plus.
- Advance finance certifications can be advantageous.
- Industry specific experience.
