How will you make an impact in this role?

The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

The Operational Risk Management (ORM) team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective operational risk management programs throughout the company, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes.

The objective of the Operational Risk Management (ORM) Process Risk Reduction and Analytics team is to address identified systemic and emerging operational risks, to ensure the integrity and efficiency of business processes, and maintain the alignment of risk reduction efforts through well-executed risk mitigation and remediations activities. The team does this through analyzing data and looking for themes across the company’s processes and operational risk stripes using advanced analytics tools, in addition to quantifying operational risks, developing key risk indicators (KRIs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational risk metrics to assess risk exposure.

Operational Risk Management (ORM) is looking for ann Analyst of Process Risk Reduction and Analytics to be part of a diverse team of high-performing professionals focused on identifying emerging risks, performing analytics and reporting and ensuring effective operational risk management is embedded in the day-to-day operations of our organization. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional areas, and geographies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support risk analytics initiatives by gathering, preparing, and analyzing data to help identify and monitor systemic and emerging operational risks.
  • Develop and maintain risk solutions, metrics, and dashboards to quantify risks and provide insights that support management decisions.
  • Execute data transformation and ETL processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality across large datasets.
  • Perform statistical and trend analysis to identify patterns in operational risk data, highlighting potential issues or emerging risk exposures.
  • Assist in the development and deployment of visualization solutions (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, ThoughtSpot) that translate complex risk data into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with peers, managers, and cross-functional teams, providing technical and analytical support during project delivery, testing, and reporting.
  • Stay current on data tools and methodologies, applying best practices in data analysis and risk monitoring to continuously improve processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of experience in data analytics, risk analysis, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, or similar tools for querying and analyzing large datasets.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and hands-on experience with ETL processes.
  • Exposure to business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, ThoughtSpot, Alteryx, Cognos).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and data quality.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to present analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Big Data platforms such as BigQuery, Databricks, or Snowflake.
  • Background or internship experience in risk management, internal audit, or control functions, ideally within financial services.
  • Familiarity with operational risk frameworks and regulatory expectations in financial institutions.
