POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Analyst (Accountant) will assist with preparing the company’s statutory financial statements, related financial statement disclosures, and external reporting. This position reports to the Manager of Statutory Financial Reporting but works independently with peers and departments across the organization.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs the statutory financial statement preparation for assigned functions. Includes journal entry preparation, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, as well as coordinating work requirements and deadlines with other departments.
  • As part of the preparation of statutory statements and schedules for assigned functions; researches and resolves variances and inconsistencies by conducting initial investigation and applying accounting techniques.
  • Assists with completing statutory filing requirements for assigned functions including quarterly and annual statements as well as various supplemental reporting. Ensures that financial statements and supporting schedules assigned are completed timely, accurately, and in accordance with accounting guidance.
  • Assists in investigating requests from insurance regulatory authorities.
  • Assists with annual external audits and examinations including the preparation of work papers and information gathering. Prepares Statutory basis annual financial report including footnotes for assigned functions.
  • Responds to other departmental requests involving financial information and assists with departmental projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 2 or more years of related experience; preferred candidate will have experience in public accounting or in the insurance industry
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to draw conclusions from research and report on findings.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with Oracle, Essbase and Business Object Enterprise is preferred
  • Proficient with MS Office products such as Word and Excel.
