The Device Services (DS) Infrastructure team is seeking a senior operations engineer who thrives in complex operational environments and can drive strategic change across our lab ecosystem. We manage a fleet of thousands of Apple devices used in a centralized, automated test system which is a critical tool used by engineers developing for iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS. This role acts as a force multiplier, leading cross-functional initiatives that improve how devices are managed, tracked, tested, and scaled across multiple lab sites. You will bridge the gap between lab operations, automation systems, and software services teams to deliver solutions that drive efficiency, visibility, and reliability.
We are looking for an operational problem-solver and strategic leader who understands both the technical and human sides of running high-volume test labs. You must enjoy working on multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment that fosters growth, teamwork and innovation.
  • Leading cross-functional projects spanning hardware, software, and operations to align lab workflows with automation systems and engineering needs
  • Partnering with software and automation teams to help us scale effectively
  • Identifying and resolving systemic operational issues in device intake/retirement, inventory health, and lab throughput
  • Driving ongoing workflow improvements across multiple sites (Santa Clara, San Diego, Munich, and future expansions)
  • Developing operational metrics to measure lab performance, device utilization, and process adherence
  • Mentoring engineers and technicians on process optimization and technical troubleshooting
  • Partnering with the Lab Operations Manager to execute high-impact initiatives
  • 8+ years of experience in technical operations, systems integration, or large-scale lab/test environments
  • Strong understanding of operational workflows from device provisioning and tracking to testing and decommissioning
  • Demonstrated ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional projects with minimal oversight
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools (Python, Bash, Ansible, or similar)
  • Communication and project management skills across technical and operational audiences
  • Experience with software services, automation infrastructure, or device farm environments
  • Familiarity with continuous integration test systems
  • Experience supporting teams with multiple geographic sites
  • Knowledge of hardware lifecycle management and inventory tracking systems
  • Experience with macOS, iOS, and other Apple platforms
  • Creative thinker and strong problem solver with meticulous attention to detail
