At Apple Maps, we’re not just building world-class location experiences — we’re shaping the future of how people explore and navigate the world. As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you’ll join a high-impact team that’s passionate about quality, automation, and innovation. You’ll help enhance the reliability and performance of Maps across all platforms by building sophisticated test solutions that scale. Our team culture is one of deep collaboration, shared ownership, and a strong belief that quality is everyone’s responsibility. We support each other, challenge each other, and grow together — all while having fun solving some of the most complex testing problems at Apple. If you’re excited about pushing boundaries in automation and working with an exceptional group of engineers, we’d love to have you on the journey.
As a member of the Maps Client Quality Engineering organization, you will play a key role in advancing the automation that ensures the accuracy and reliability of Apple Maps. Your primary focus will be on the Navigation Framework, while also contributing to other foundational areas that power the Maps experience across Apple platforms.
  • Architect and implement framework-level automation that validates navigation routing, guidance, ETA accuracy, and other service integrations.
  • Build asynchronous and data-driven tests that model real-world navigation behaviors and system responses.
  • Collaborate with Client, Services, and Quality Engineers to identify coverage gaps, define automation requirements, and deliver scalable solutions that improve reliability and signal quality.
  • Extend existing frameworks to support multiple environments, reduce runtime, and strengthen regression detection.
  • Collaborate with AI-driven quality initiatives to integrate intelligent insights — enabling smarter test selection, automated triage, and faster root-cause analysis.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Apple Maps’ automation ecosystem, helping to shape how AI, analytics, and frameworks come together to raise the bar for quality at scale. Your work will directly influence how millions of users experience navigation, discovery, and exploration across the Apple ecosystem.
  • Strong programming skills in Swift and Objective-C, with experience reading, debugging, and extending framework-level or API-level code.
  • Hands-on experience with asynchronous programming and testing (async/await, callbacks, concurrency, dispatch queues).
  • Proven expertise in framework or non-UI automation — validating APIs, SDKs, or service integrations.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automation infrastructure (ATP, Jenkins, Xcode Cloud).
  • Experience partnering with Client, Services, and Quality Engineers to define automation needs and architect the right solutions for the right problems.
  • Exposure to or direct experience integrating AI/ML techniques into automation workflows (intelligent triage, anomaly detection, test selection).
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills.
  • Analytics automation or test-data validation experience is a strong plus.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent, with 3–5+ years of industry experience in test automation or iOS development.
  • Passion for building clean, reusable test components and contributing to test infrastructure evolution.
  • Strong sense of ownership, curiosity, and drive to improve quality at scale.
  • Experience with Maps, Navigation, or GeoServices frameworks, or other large-scale system APIs.
  • Background in framework or SDK-level automation architecture.
  • Familiarity with analytics pipelines and validation of telemetry or metrics data.
  • Exposure to AI/ML platforms or model-assisted quality systems.
