Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other’s ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It’s the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you’ll do more than join something — you’ll add something. The Apple Cloud Networking team constructs software-defined network infrastructure as an integral component of Apple Cloud. Our infrastructure serves as a pivotal foundation for delivering Apple’s services, including iCloud, iTunes, Siri, and Maps, to a global customer base of billions. We are a dynamic and collaborative organization where drive and teamwork are essential for success. Teams across Apple rely on our infrastructure to build scalable, highly available, and reliable services that operate seamlessly. We actively listen to diverse perspectives, foster the emergence of innovative ideas, and make decisions that propel our progress. As a member of the Apple Cloud Network team, you will contribute to the development and operationalization of cutting-edge products and solutions that will shape the future of our highly scalable network infrastructure.
We're looking for passionate folks who love building super-scalable, reliable, and user-friendly systems to support Apple's global network. You'll be designing, developing, building, and running software defined network services that power critical infrastructure reaching a global customer base of billions. Working at our global scale brings some unique and tough challenges - from managing petabytes of traffic across distributed data centers to building intelligent automation that eliminates manual toil and makes network operations seamless. If you're excited about working at the intersection of software and networking and solving hard problems that push the boundaries of what's possible at scale, then our team might be the perfect place for you!
- You’ll build these services using skills from different areas like distributed systems, network programming, API design, and resilient software engineering.
- Writing code that directly controls network behavior, creating elegant abstractions over complex network topologies, and building the next generation of network control planes.
- Strong programming skills in at least one modern language (Go, Rust, Python, C++, or similar)
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching, VLANs, and network troubleshooting
- Experience with network automation or infrastructure-as-code concepts
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix systems and command-line tools
- Understanding of RESTful APIs and how to build or consume them
- Hands-on experience with large-scale production systems
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
- Strong and proven record of working with cross-functional teams
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to articulate concepts, designs, and decisions
- BS and MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science
- Experience with SDN technologies (OpenFlow, NETCONF, gRPC, P4, etc.)
- Knowledge of data center networking and network virtualization (VXLAN, VRFs, overlays)
- Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform, Salt)
- Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and cloud-native architectures
- Experience with network telemetry and monitoring systems (Prometheus, Grafana, gNMI)
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
