Wireless Technologies team is looking for a lead engineer for connectivity (WiFi / BT / Thread) systems analytics team with a passion for statistical analysis with the ultimate goal of improving the connectivity experience for Apple customers. You will work on defining performance metrics, designing analytical data views for WiFi/Bluetooth/Thread software features, analyzing/mining data for future enhancements and communicating product performance. The role of the Systems analytics engineer is to turn data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
As a technical lead for Connectivity (WiFi / Bluetooth / Thread) Analytics, you will provide leadership to the analytics team and own your own technical deliverables. You will work cross-functionally with platform architecture, standardization, firmware/host development, system test and QA teams to define the requirements for data collection from Apple products to achieve data driven decision making. Generate and interpret reports & dashboards by aggregating & correlating metrics collected from various layers of the Wi-Fi & Bluetooth protocol stack and firmware. Assess pre and post launch performance of iOS releases for Connectivity Technology features. Present/summarize the analytics findings and propose enhancements to product development, QA and architecture teams after interpreting the connectivity software telemetry from millions of devices.
  • Define telemetry & KPI definitions for connectivity analytics across Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Thread
  • Design & develop cross-layer datasets to evaluate functionality and performance of connectivity software / hardware
  • Perform pre & post launch assessment of connectivity KPIs
  • Extract & present key insights to influence connectivity SW/FW design decisions, prioritize key anomalies and drive new features
  • Track Wi-Fi / Bluetooth enabled user experiences via analytics and drive various optimization opportunities across cross functional organizations
  • Deep understanding of Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11) and/or Bluetooth/BLE protocols
  • 8+ years in a systems/performance engineering role in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Thread technology domain with focus on data analytics, root cause analysis and identifying optimization opportunities
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with 802.11 MAC/PHY systems
  • Understanding of and passion for statistical data analysis
  • Solid understanding of Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 features & standards
  • 5+ years experience with data mining/visualization to interpret Wi-Fi / Bluetooth KPIs
  • Fluent in Python & SQL for data analysis and exploration
  • Engineering management or Technical Lead experience for Connectivity Analytics / Performance / Systems teams
  • In-depth knowledge of Bluetooth Classic and BLE protocols, including the latest Bluetooth 5.2/5.3 standards
  • Experience with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth coexistence and deep understanding of multiple radio scheduling
  • Experience with embedded software design/development & connectivity chipset commercialization
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
