Apple GPU Software team provides developers access to harness the power of the graphics processor unit (GPU) across all of Apple's innovative products, from iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch to vision to Mac product line. Our team responsibilities encompass design new language constructions, compiler transformation, and developer tools to the GPU on Apple’s hardware. Metal provides near-direct accesses to the GPU to give developers more control of the HW and enable developer to take advantage of Apple Silicon. Join the compiler team, and you’ll collaborate with engineers across Apple to develop tools and languages to enable developers to create cutting-edge applications for graphics, compute, and machine learning using the GPU. We work closely with our partners in HW technology and GPU driver and framework team to develop feature roadmaps.qui The ideal candidate should have a passion for language design, compilation techniques, GPUs, and understand how to enable developers to maximize their performance on our GPUs.
We seek a results-oriented, upbeat, and focused individual passionate about learning and developing new technologies. The Apple GPU Compiler Team seeks a compiler engineer to analyze, design, and build new language constructs in the front-end and middle-end optimizations to harness the power of the GPU. As a key member of our team, you will apply your knowledge of compilers to investigate new architectures, design languages, and develop high-quality static and JIT front-end and middle-end optimizations for various applications from games to machine learning to image processing. You will partner with a world-class team in integrating the compilers into the developer platform to maximize the performance of ML, compute, and graphics for Apple products across our platforms.
  • Design and architect language features and intermediate representation (IR) to represent new architectures’ features and enable advanced optimizations.
  • Research and design compiler optimization algorithms to garget general-purpose compute, ML, and graphic-specific code paths.
  • Build developer-focused compiler-based tools and infrastructure.
  • Technical BS/MS degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience in compiler development.
  • Deep understanding of compiler spanning semantic analysis, type systems, and optimization algorithms.
  • Strong foundation of computer architecture, including memory hierarchy and instructions, and other modern processors.
  • Excellent skills in software design, problem solving, debugging, and performance analysis.
  • Understand a parallel programming language for GPUs or CPUs like Metal, OpenGL, OpenCL, DirectX, or CUDA.
  • Familiarity of ML and frameworks like PyTorch
  • Familiarity with graphics
