We are looking for a Principal Technical Strategist to join the Wallet, Payments, and Commerce (WPC) engineering organization. You'll own problems, not projects. The challenges you take on won't come with a brief or a predefined scope — they'll come as open-ended, high-stakes questions that need someone who can independently frame the problem, build conviction, and drive to outcomes. This is a hands-on role embedded within engineering, not an advisory one. You go deep, move fast, and operate autonomously.
The Product Operations team is responsible for helping Apple teams operate and execute effectively. Our team is responsible to take some of the most difficult organizational, business, or technological challenges. In this role, you will partner with senior leadership to develop and execute plans that change the way we do our work. To do this role successfully, you need to have a deep technical understanding of how our products work, a strong sense of ownership, and fantastic execution skills. You need to be the kind of person who can wear many hats and do whatever it takes to get the job done.
- Own strategic problems end-to-end: independently identify what needs to be true, what is blocking progress, and what to do about it
- Need to be able to rapidly develop deep domain expertise in any portion of the stack and use that depth to make better decisions, faster
- Bring structure to ambiguous, cross-functional challenges where the problem statement itself is unclear or contested
- Operate as a trusted partner to engineering leadership — someone who can be handed a problem and trusted to come back with a well-reasoned path forward
- Work with partners to understand engineering constraints, business context, and market dynamics to synthesize into strategic recommendations for executives
- Influence outcomes across teams and organizations without formal authority
- Communicate complex tradeoffs with precision and clarity to both engineering and executive audiences
- Proven ability to operate independently on ambiguous, high-impact problems with minimal direction
- Exceptional learning velocity — you've repeatedly entered unfamiliar domains and become effective faster than expected
- Strong analytical rigor — comfortable with data, systems thinking, and quantitative reasoning; you build your own models and frameworks rather than waiting for them
- Experience working directly within or embedded alongside engineering organizations
- Track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving decisions across organizational boundaries
- Excellent written and verbal communication; you distill complexity, not add to it
- 12+ years in strategy, product, consulting, technical program management, or similar roles demanding both strategic depth and execution
- Background in payments, digital wallets, financial services, or commerce platforms
- Familiarity with payment network ecosystems (card networks, issuers, acquirers, tokenization)
- Technical fluency — you can read an architecture diagram, understand engineering tradeoffs, and earn credibility with engineers
- Experience at the intersection of hardware, software, and services
