As an iOS Software Development Engineer, you'll join a high-impact Data Insights team that's passionate about our customer's experience of Apple Maps. You'll drive the development and evolution of sophisticated client-side frameworks that drive our understanding of how millions of people interact with Apple Maps and Find My across all Apple platforms and devices. This isn't just about understanding and uncovering insights and hidden patterns in data—it's about building highly performant, privacy-first Swift interoperating with Objective-C infrastructure that runs seamlessly on hundreds of millions of devices. As a key engineer on this team, you will architect the foundational frameworks that process complex user interactions on-device. You will tackle iOS engineering challenges: How do we capture rich, real-time interactions, and uncover hidden patterns in data to be used for feature innovation? How do we process this telemetry while strictly enforcing Apple's industry-leading privacy standards? In this role, you will collaborate closely with data scientists and core engineering teams to build the infrastructure that powers next-generation feature development, testing, and performance monitoring,. We are looking for a developer who thrives on technical engineering excellence, loves building elegant developer-facing APIs, and wants to leverage their deep understanding of Apple platforms to build scalable, resilient client-side solutions.
- Architect and build high-performance, scalable client-side frameworks for Apple Maps and Find My using Swift interoperating with Objective-C.
- Design elegant APIs and on-device data pipelines that capture complex user interactions while adhering to CPU, memory, and battery constraints.
- Develop internal tooling and robust testing strategies using latest GenAI technologies (e.g. Claude) to ensure the flawless execution of our frameworks across iOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS.
- Champion user privacy by implementing cutting-edge, on-device privacy-preserving techniques built right into the client architecture.
- Partner closely with data science teams, product managers, and engineering project managers to build the infrastructure that helps them measure the success of new UI/UX paradigms.
- 4+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on iOS/macOS frameworks or complex client-side applications.
- Experience in Swift or Objective-C.
- A passion for building elegant, developer-friendly APIs and robust system architecture.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail and code quality.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across large, cross-functional engineering teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience building & integrating telemetry or feature-flagging frameworks on mobile devices.
- Familiarity with concurrency topics, background/foreground execution, daemons.
- Experience working with Quality Engineering team.
- A background or strong interest in maps data, mapping applications, or location-based services.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, or Data Science
