In this role, you will be at the forefront of next-generation immersive experiences, where spatial media coding standards transcend their technical foundation to become the invisible catalyst driving the visual fidelity, immersion, and responsiveness behind a new class of Apple products. Your innovation in volumetric media compression and processing algorithms will directly influence how rich 3D content is captured, stored and transmitted, and experienced at scale. As a member of a small and dynamic team, you will play a pivotal role in contributing to volumetric visual codec standards and developing groundbreaking compression and processing algorithms for current and future Apple products. This role requires a dedicated individual with robust analytical and creative problem-solving abilities, as well as a profound passion for 3D coding and processing technologies.
As a 3D Codec Algorithm Engineer, you will be at the forefront of innovation, addressing complex technical challenges and playing a crucial role in shaping the future of spatial media experiences across Apple products and the spatial media standardization landscape. We seek a motivated, enthusiastic individual passionate about 3D media coding and processing, with strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Develop innovative volumetric visual media compression and processing algorithms.
  • Design and implement spatial media codecs optimized for existing and future hardware platforms.
  • Contribute to spatial media standardization activities.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software architects to design and integrate 3D compression technologies for upcoming products.
  • BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant proven experience
  • Expertise in 3D and/or video coding principles, algorithms, and techniques
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++
  • Excellent software design, problem-solving, and debugging abilities
  • Experience with the generation, rendering, and compression of emerging 3D representations, such as 3DGS.
  • Experience with volumetric visual media compression standards, including V-PCC, G-PCC, and V-DMC.
  • Experience with objective and subjective visual quality assessment methods for volumetric visual media (e.g., 3D meshes, point clouds, and 3DGS).
  • Familiarity with 3D scene description formats, such as USD.
  • Proficiency in digital signal processing and information theory.
  • Excellent collaboration skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
