We are the Apple Services Engineering Security team. We build secure systems and infrastructure that fuel Apple's services (such as iCloud, iTunes, Siri, App Store, and Maps). We are expanding our team and searching for a Security Architect who will connect the dots across our security systems, data platforms, risk models, and operational workflows into a coherent technical vision. This is not a purely strategic role. You will spend 20-30% of your time hands-on: prototyping integration patterns, proving out architectural concepts, and gluing the paved path together so that teams can move fast and safely. The remaining time is spent defining architecture, driving cross-team alignment, setting technical standards, and mentoring engineers across the organization. If you thrive at the intersection of big-picture thinking and keyboard-level execution, this role was built for you.
ASE Security operates dozens of systems spanning identity and access management, vulnerability management, risk modeling, security posture, software supply chain, detection and response, and compliance automation. These systems have grown organically, each solving a real problem, but the connections between them are often ad hoc, brittle, or missing entirely. The Security Architect is the person who makes the whole greater than the sum of its parts. You will define how our security platforms compose, communicate, and evolve together.
  • 20+ years of experience in software engineering, infrastructure, or security engineering with at least 3 years in an architectural or technical leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience designing and evolving distributed systems at scale — including APIs, event-driven architectures, data pipelines, and platform infrastructure
  • Strong hands-on engineering skills in at least two of: Python, Go, Java, Swift, Rust — able to prototype, build reference implementations, and review code with authority
  • Deep understanding of security fundamentals — authentication, authorization, cryptography, network security, and secure software development lifecycle
  • Experience with security-specific architectures: SIEM/SOAR platforms, identity and access management systems, vulnerability management, or risk modeling
  • Familiarity with graph databases, knowledge graphs, or ontology-based data modeling
  • Experience with Apple's technology ecosystem or large-scale consumer services infrastructure
  • Background in platform engineering — building shared infrastructure, developer tools, or internal platforms that other teams build on
  • Experience operating in a complex, matrixed organization where influence matters more than authority
  • Contributions to open-source security projects, industry standards, or published security research
