The Audio Products User Experience and Prototyping team is responsible for designing and building new features for the entire AirPods lineup. We are a diverse team of technically minded audio enthusiasts with expertise in software development, acoustic measurement, algorithm prototyping, and critical listening. We work closely with multi-functional teams to bring innovative audio experiences—such as Transparency, Hearing Health, and media personalization—from concept to customer. We are searching for an Audio Experience Engineer to help bring AirPods features to the next level.
As an Audio Experience Engineer on the Audio Products User Experience and Prototyping team, you will be responsible for developing and refining new audio features from early concept through production. This includes characterization and tuning of feature performance, working with development hardware, modifying prototype firmware, and validating features through acoustic measurement and critical listening. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure the overall audio product experience is second to none. Day-to-day responsibilities may include software development, acoustic lab measurements, and prototype tuning.
- 3+ years of software development experience in Swift, Python, Objective-C, C++, or similar languages; or equivalent prototyping experience with tools such as Max/MSP or MATLAB.
- BS/MS in Acoustics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent field.
- Excellent written and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with multi-disciplinary team members.
- Ability to work on-site in Cupertino on a hybrid schedule (3+ days per week).
- A strong passion for audio with practical experience in acoustic measurement or audio signal processing.
- An ear for good sound, with critical listening skills and experience in tuning, equalization, compression, or music production.
- Experience with acoustic measurement or prototyping tools such as Max/MSP, MATLAB, or SoundCheck.
- Familiarity with firmware development workflows and embedded systems.
- Experience with hearing science, audiology, or hearing aid technology.
