The Home Hardware team is looking for a highly motivated and creative Hardware Architect to help define, architect, and build the future of Apple home product concepts. In this 0-to-1 role, you will be at the forefront of early-stage product exploration, operating at the intersection of hardware, software, and user experience. You will work with a diverse, cross-functional team of mechanical, software and controls engineers to architect complex systems.
As a Home Hardware System EE Architect, you will be responsible for the electrical definition and feasibility studies early-stage concepts. Your day-to-day work will span high-level system architecture to hands-on bench-level evaluation of key systems. You will research and select novel sensors, compute architectures, power electronics, and electromechanical technologies, driving the electrical architecture from a blank whiteboard to a fully functioning system. In this role, you will collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team — spanning mechanical, controls, perception, and software — to develop and integrate cutting-edge hardware systems for future Apple products. You will own critical aspects of the electrical architecture and implementation of systems that combine real-time control, dynamic power loads, and rich multi-modal sensing. Success in this role requires not just deep technical expertise, but also strong product intuition and a systems-level mindset that accounts for the unique challenges of products.
- Define and own the electrical system architecture across compute, power, actuation, and sensing subsystems
- Drive schematic design, PCB/flex layout direction, and board bring-up for main logic, motion control, and sensor boards
- Partner with mechanical, controls, and perception teams to architect motion and sensing solutions that meet performance, reliability, and safety targets
- Lead debug, characterization, and validation of mixed-signal designs across development, EVT, DVT, and PVT phases
- Anticipate integration risks across mechanical motion, thermal, EMI/EMC, and functional safety domains and drive them to resolution
- Influence product direction through data-driven technical recommendations and cross-functional leadership
- BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
- 5+ years of industry experience in hardware design, specifically in architecture and R&D environments.
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals across digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power delivery (DC-DC) design.
- Proven experience in system-level architecture and component selection for embedded systems, consumer electronics, or mechatronics.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively bring-up, debug, and validate mixed-signal designs
- MS or PhD in electrical engineering or similar field
- Experience leading teams through product development cycle from concept development to production bring up
- Experience architecting real-time control systems, synchronized sensor/actuator timing, and deterministic communication buses
- Familiarity with functional safety standards and practices (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508, or equivalent)
- Expertise in emerging sensing technologies and sensor design highly preferred
- Ability to take a methodical and insightful approach to data analysis
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distill
