Description

The College of Global Futures at Arizona State University seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scholar to work with the Lifelong Learning team and the Walton Sustainability Teachers Academies. This is a full-time, fiscal-year (12 month), benefits eligible, year-to-year appointment. Anticipated start date Fall 2025. The postdoctoral scholar will become part of an innovative interdisciplinary academic program in K-12 sustainability education. Applicants should demonstrate commitment to the integration of fundamental research with its practical application by addressing real-world problems in K-12 education with their research and, reciprocally, by drawing inspiration for their fundamental research from real-world sustainability problems. The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to work with the College of Global Futures and its schools, including the School of Sustainability, and the Walton Sustainability Teachers Academies, to pursue their own research and its application to sustainability education.

This is a grant-funded position for the duration of one year. Continuation is contingent on future grant funding. Appointments are year-to-year, with subsequent renewal based upon performance, the needs of the department, and availability of funding.

General Information

The Walton Sustainability Teachers Academies oversees multiple programs and projects, including an online learning program and a professional development workshop for K-12 teachers held in the summer, and regional Sustainability Learning Labs that facilitate projects with local sustainability leaders and educators to further sustainability education for K-12 students and teachers.

Essential Functions/ Job Duties

  • Contribute to ongoing research and evaluation of Walton Teachers Academies programs
  • Provide input to Walton Teachers Academies delivery of teacher professional development
  • Collaborate with development officer in seeking and writing grant proposals
  • Contribute to academic publications
  • Engage in and support sustainability education efforts within and across the College of Global Futures

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

A PhD or EdD in education, sustainability, or in a field that is relevant to sustainability, at the time of appointment. Must be within five years of doctoral degree award.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated focus on any area of sustainability education including but not limited to formal and informal education, K-12 sustainability and/or environmental education, higher education, and justice - intergenerational, climate, environmental etc.
  • Evidence of capacity to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and disseminate scholarly findings in the candidate’s area of expertise
  • Evidence of potential to disseminate scholarly findings based on applied research and evaluation in peer-reviewed publications
  • Excellent communication skills and confident stakeholder engagement with community partners
