The Arizona State University (ASU) Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation invites applications for the Associate Dean for Research with a faculty position at the rank of associate professor or professor, tenured/tenure track. The associate dean serves as the chief research strategist and executive leader for the college’s research enterprise, is a key member of the Dean’s leadership team, and works strategically with research leaders throughout the university and across community partners to advance Edson’s research enterprise in alignment with ASU’s overall research goals. The position carries primary responsibility for the transformational growth, scale, and national prominence of the college’s research portfolio. The successful candidate will bring an innovative and data-informed approach to significantly expanding external research awards and total research expenditures, while advancing interdisciplinary, translational, and community-engaged scholarship aligned with ASU’s research priorities. The position is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to strengthen an already productive research portfolio while helping faculty think bigger, collaborate smarter, and compete effectively for external funding. Partnering closely with the Dean and senior leadership, this role shapes research investment decisions, faculty hiring priorities, and long-term research capacity while promoting a collaborative environment that supports investigators across career and funding stages, from early-stage funding to large, complex, multi-investigator and multi-institutional awards. Serving as a visible internal and external ambassador for the college’s research mission, this position will cultivate and sustain strategic partnerships that expand and broaden the college’s research funding base and enhance translational impact.

Essential Duties

  • Provide visionary and operational leadership for the college’s research enterprise through a multi-year research growth strategy that emphasizes substantial and sustained growth in extramural research funding and expenditures.
  • Provide executive leadership for the college’s research administration and support functions, including pre- and post-award services, research analytics, methods and statistics, data management, and grant writing/editing.
  • In collaboration with team members across Edson College, ensure through data and metrics that research operations are scalable, efficient, and performance-driven, enabling growth in proposal volume, awards, and expenditures while maintaining compliance, quality, and fiscal integrity.
  • Collaborate with directors of research centers to align center-level strategies with college and university research priorities and growth goals.
  • Conduct an active, independent, and externally supported program of health-related research appropriate to rank
  • Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed venues and disseminate research findings
  • Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in academic and research settings
  • Participate in service activities that support the mission and governance of Edson College, ASU Health, and the profession

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications will include the following:

  • An earned PhD or equivalent research-focused doctoral degree in nursing or a health-related field from an accredited institution.
  • A well-established program of research relevant to the position as evidenced by extramurally funded research and peer-reviewed, high-quality publications, and dissemination activities.
  • For applicants having a degree in nursing, eligibility for entry-level licensure in Arizona; must provide evidence/receipt of an Arizona Registered Nurse license prior to first day of employment. NOTE: This does not apply for applicants who are not Registered Nurses.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in research administration.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to plan, implement, and evaluate research initiatives.
  • Experience with large, complex funding mechanisms, such as center grants, program project grants, cooperative agreements, or multi-institutional awards.
  • Evidence of transformational research leadership, including scaling research awards and expenditures or leading major interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Currently funded research grants and/or contracts.
  • The potential for securing additional extramurally funded research and contracts.
  • Previous research mentoring experience.
  • Service as a mentor to and/or collaborator with peer and junior faculty.
  • Experience as an effective teacher in the classroom, laboratory, or field sites.
  • Professional leadership within local, regional, national, and international groups.
