Data drives innovation and this role is behind the wheel of our Data Engineering group. This foundational role designs and builds the paths to fine-tune Audible’s operations and outpace our competitors. Our Data Engineering group owns the datasets and platforms that not only enable our systems but also our people, to uncover new insights. You’ll put your experience to work in a start-up culture – all while accessing the tech-forward tools, training, and infrastructure of our parent company, Amazon.

As a Software Engineer in the Data Organization, you will…
- Develop and maintain ETL pipelines and data processing systems under guidance from senior team members
- Implement data models and transformations based on established patterns and requirements
- Write clean, testable code following team standards and best practices
- Collaborate with team members on data pipeline design and implementation
- Participate in code reviews and learn from feedback to improve your technical skills
- Support data quality initiatives and monitoring of existing systems
- Document your work and contribute to team knowledge sharing
- Assist in troubleshooting data issues and implementing fixes
- Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
- Proficiency in functional programming languages (e.g. Python) as well as declarative programming languages (e.g. SQL, SPARQL)

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience processing and modeling large, complex data sets for Analytical use cases with Database technologies such as AWS Redshift, Teradata or equivalent
- Ability to communicate effectively and work independently with little supervision to deliver on time quality products
- Willingness to learn, be open minded to new ideas and different opinions yet knowing when to stop, analyze, and reach a decision
- Familiarity with AWS cloud technologies such as Elastic Map Reduce (EMR), Kinesis, Athena
- Familiarity with BI and Visualization platforms such as MicroStrategy and AWS Quicksight
- Experience with React, HTTP/2, Serverless, Microservices, and cross-platform development
- Prior use of AWS technologies at scale in a production environment
- Working knowledge of Machine Learning techniques
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptable, proactive and willing to take ownership
- Familiar with Unix/Linux and know how to write optimized, low-latency code
- Passion for data, coding, modeling, research design and cutting-edges algorithms
- 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $99,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $200,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
