What You'll Do

You'll be a part of the Avalara product team serving as the Sr. Product Manager, Int'l Indirect Tax Content, who will use your product management skills and subject-matter-expertise in support of the Avalara Tax Content (ATC) product solution and Avalara's internal content sourcing and delivery system…Content Studio.

You will collaborate with customers, department leaders, and GMs focusing on defining/refining product vision to translate into strategic roadmaps with measurable Goals. You will be the source of well-defined functional requirements, wireframes/clickable prototypes, user journeys, and the speedy delivery of the most complete and accurate indirect tax content in the industry. This includes content supporting multiple system types…Point-Of-Sale (POS), ERP, OTAs, Ecommerce, and more. You will report to the Sr. Director of Product Management, Global Content Solutions and is critical for delivering indirect tax content to external and internal customers.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

  • Be the Subject-Matter-Expert (SME) and Owner of the Avalara Tax Content (ATC) platform with an extreme focus on customer usability and performance.
  • Prioritize, plan, and execute key initiatives in collaboration with Content Engineering to support the sourcing and delivery of tax content to all Avalara solutions through Content Studio.
  • Translate business strategy and product vision into strategic product roadmaps aligning with measurable Goals.
  • Develop and maintain understanding of assigned products including working knowledge of the product functionality and architecture, users, markets, and competitive landscape.
  • Dive deep into business/financial system (outside of Avalara products) native tax calculation systems as a method of defining requirements to enhance or add product features.
  • Create functional requirements used by engineering teams to develop, evaluate, and release new product or product features.
  • Guide prioritization and planning of development work to achieve business and product goals while maintaining the right balance for maintenance, support, feature enhancements, strategic roadmap, and technical roadmap.
  • Work with engineering partners to groom, refine, and prioritize backlog of tickets. This involves deep dive design sessions to walk through functional requirements and user acceptance criteria.
  • Support engineering development activities through participation in Agile/scrum activities to answer detailed functional questions and review/unblock engineering team on their development.
  • Promote user acceptance testing and ensure complete and functional delivery of product features for ultimate approval by department leaders or GMs.
  • Work with Go-To-Market teams (sales, business development, and support) on production and delivery of product enablement materials (documentation, demos, FAQs).
  • Work with GMs and other business teams (finance, legal) to write functional requirements for pricing, legal, and provisioning.

What You'll Need to be Successful

  • 7+ years of experience in SaaS product management, with at least 3 years' experience of US indirect taxes.
  • Experience with customer needs and ability to translate user pain points, especially in the tax/compliance domain, into valuable, applicable product features.
  • Experience managing full product lifecycles from concept through launch, iteration, and optimization in Agile environments.
  • Collaboration with a history of influencing teams (engineering, UX/design, marketing, and partners) without direct authority.
  • Apply metrics, user feedback, and market research to guide product strategy.
  • Technical literacy and familiarity with modern tools and platforms, including AI/ML technologies, Jira, and product management tools.
  • Experience communicating product updates, milestones, and progress to internal and external partners; able to advocate for the customer and influence executive partners.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, and Computer Science).
