BloombergNEF Clean Power Analyst (6 Months Contract)

BloombergNEF (BNEF) is seeking a dedicated, highly motivated individual to join our clean power analysis team based in London for an initial 6 months contract. You will write new research on the transformation of the renewable energy sector, with a focus on solar and cross-cutting technology trends. Specifically, the successful candidate will support critical work around forecasting solar capacity build, collecting data and providing insights on operation and maintenance costs, and tracking progress on government policies across clean power.
You are someone with a keen interest in clean energy, and you enjoy digging deep into a topic. You develop original opinions through critical examination, and communicating these in both writing and speech. You are a quick learner, and your quantitative skills are very strong. You are passionate about developing insights and analyzing market trends, and you have a good attention to detail. Teamwork is important to you, and you are excited by the prospect of collaborating with colleagues and clients from a wide range of backgrounds.

The role:
You will join as a contractor for 6 months, covering global trends in the global wind, solar and storage industries – with a particular focus on solar deployment, economics and clean energy policy. Together with your colleagues, you will identify topics of client interest and importance, conduct independent research, generate insightful findings, and produce written reports of publishable quality. You will collaborate with a high degree of integrity with colleagues and clients from different cultures and countries, in person and remotely. You will develop an internal and external network of industry contacts to capture insights, identify trends and collect information. You will be working with colleagues and clients based around the world – periodic travel may be expected.
We'll trust you to:
- Support BNEF’s forecasts for solar deployment in key markets within Europe and globally, keeping on track of the latest developments and what this means for capacity installations.
- Evaluate clean energy policies to support wind, solar, storage, geothermal and nuclear within G-20 member states to assess support and market attractiveness.
- Assess clean energy deployment relative to global climate goals, including targets to triple installed capacity by 2030 and the outcomes of the UN’s COP30 in Brazil.
- Support data quality and improvement initiatives across BNEF’s proprietary renewable projects and asset finance datasets.
- Capture, coordinate and analyze datasets pertaining to clean energy topics and publish written research in English on your conclusions.
- Explain your research to clients via email, telephone and in-person meetings.
- Deliver presentations internally or at industry events.
- Build a reputation in industry for your insightful commentary and analysis of the sector.
You'll need to have:
- A degree in economics, science or engineering, or a strong willingness to learn coupled with a quantitative background
- Intellectual curiosity, interest in and passion for the renewable energy industry; a desire to become a leading expert in the field
- Proficiency in English and outstanding communication skills: writing (for research projects) and speaking (for presentations)
- Ability to distill and communicate sophisticated topics to non-specialist audiences
- Ability to think critically and develop thoughtful opinions by cutting through the noise of data, finding key patterns, applying judgment to the claims of industry participants and asking insightful questions
- Good time management skills, initiative and ability to work on multiple projects at once
- Have an excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
We'd love to see:
- Experience working on data projects and using analytical and programming tools such as SQL or Python.
- Prior experience analyzing solar markets, clean energy policies or other topics related to the power sector, whether through an internship, academic research, or prior work experience
