Our Team:

Bloomberg’s Change Orchestration team manages products for orchestrating software and infrastructure changes across Bloomberg’s over hundred thousand hosts and devices. The platform you will help build aims to be THE one stop shop to drive automated infrastructure changes quickly, safely, and with stakeholder buy-in. Our mission is to make datacenter-scale changes safe and cheap to deploy.

Our team and extended team are a friendly, supportive group with deep roots in the internal Go community. We love readability and simplicity in code, believing very complex products can only be built on the back of very simple reusable components.

What we’re working on:

We already manage large-scale initiatives such as operating system upgrades across tens of thousands of hosts and network devices, and are onboarding additional workflows like cluster-specific network policy updates. You will be instrumental in growing this product into a highly generalized, self-service platform. This next-generation platform will reduce the engineering overhead for new automation from months to mere weeks.

Your Role:

Our main technical challenge: Generalization with Guardrails. How do you build a platform that can automate anything (generalization) while ensuring it can never accidentally break everything (guardrails)? We need a technical lead to design the abstractions that unify our vast infrastructure while architecting the systemic safety mechanisms that make dangerous, high-impact changes a risk-free, low-touch operation.

You will be a technical lead who:

  • Mentors and coaches other engineers and contributes to a strong culture of code quality and simplicity

  • Leads the technical design and end-to-end delivery of multi-person, cross-team projects

  • Drives platform architecture, defining abstractions and long-term technical direction for the team

  • Balances long-term vision with near-term delivery on high-visibility projects

You’ll need to have:

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in Go

  • A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience

  • Proven ability to deliver complex features with an emphasis on code simplicity and operational reliability

  • Experience leading multi-person technical projects, in partnership with other teams

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

We’d love to see:

  • Experience leading a team and mentoring software engineers

  • Experience in Postgres and / or React

  • Experience building and architecting distributed applications

  • An interest in infrastructure automation
