The Corporate Technology Group designs, deploys, and supports Bloomberg’s platforms and systems used by more than 21,000 employees across 170+ offices worldwide. The team supports critical infrastructure services that enable internal applications, data platforms, engineering workflows, and enterprise operations across Bloomberg.
What’s the Role?
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you’ll help engineer, operate, and improve Bloomberg’s globally distributed Windows hosting and SQL Server database services. You will bring strong hands-on Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server administration experience, with enough infrastructure awareness to troubleshoot across virtualization, storage, networking, identity, and application dependencies.
We’ll Trust You To
- Engineer, support, and troubleshoot governed Windows Server environments, including configuration, patching, clustering, Active Directory integration, platform services, and lifecycle management.
- Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server services, including installation, configuration, patching, backup/restore, security, performance troubleshooting, availability, failover clustering, and operational support.
- Diagnose complex service issues across Windows Server, SQL Server, Active Directory, DNS, service accounts, networking, storage, virtualization, and application dependencies.
- Improve monitoring, alerting, telemetry, service health reporting, documentation, and operational handoffs to reduce risk and improve supportability.
- Identify and deliver improvements that simplify processes, reduce manual effort, increase automation, and improve the consistency of service delivery across the global operating model.
- Contribute to incident response, root cause analysis, problem management, preventative engineering, and operational readiness for business-critical platform and database services.
- Partner across engineering, operations, application, database, security, and infrastructure teams to plan and execute platform and database service changes safely and effectively.
You’ll Need to Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent platform, systems, and database services experience.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise Windows Server environments, Microsoft SQL Server, hosted application platforms, or related infrastructure services.
- Strong Windows Server administration experience, including troubleshooting, patching, Active Directory integration, DNS, Group Policy, service accounts, SPNs, DFS, clustering, and related platform services.
- Strong hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration experience in an enterprise environment, including installation, configuration, patching, backup/restore, security, troubleshooting, performance, and high-availability technologies.
- Working knowledge of the infrastructure dependencies that support Windows and database services, including virtualization, storage, networking, backup/recovery, and operational monitoring.
- Working knowledge of PowerShell, SQL/T-SQL, Python, or similar scripting and automation technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and operational discipline, with the ability to take ownership of complex issues and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
We’d Love to See
- Experience with SCCM or similar tools for Windows operating system deployment, software deployment, patching, and configuration management.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code practices, or tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or similar.
- Experience creating runbooks, playbooks, operational readiness reviews, support handoff documentation, and ITSM knowledge articles.
- Experience working in a global technology environment supporting business-critical Windows, platform, or database services.
- Exposure to private cloud, hybrid cloud, platform hosting technologies, or service migration initiatives.
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Grafana, Splunk, Falcon, Humio, or similar tools.
